Cash is here to stay in Japan

Two articles highlight the continued strength of cash usage amongst consumers across Japan.

Despite Japan being one of the most technologically advanced and integrated nations in the world, when it comes to cash, Japanese consumers are much more hesitant to use anything other than cash.

'Cash in Japan was used by 80% of transactions by value, and 101 trillion yen ($966 billion) was circulating at the end of October 2016 — nearly double the amount of cash from 20 years ago.'
