The Treasury in the UK understand the importance of consumer choice. Robert Jenrick, exchequer secretary to the Treasury, said: "People should have as much choice as possible when it comes to their money and we're making sure that cash is here to stay."
There had been talk of scrapping the £50 note, however the Treasury has now decided to bring the note into line with the rest of the UK currency. There has been no date given for the redesign, with the £20 note next in line to be upgraded to polymer in 2020.
