Cashmaster assists exponential growth
Aldi was founded in 1946 when Brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht took over their mother’s food store in Essen, Germany. The Aldi chain has grown from one modest food shop to over 7,000 discount supermarkets worldwide. Aldi is renowned for its simplified approach to shopping, offering great quality products at low prices.
Cashmaster International facilitates growth by removing obstacles. Counting cash by hand is inefficient, expensive and unnecessarily complicated: quite incompatible with Aldi’s streamlined, lean systems.
This was already apparent to Aldi in 1997 when Fongern Automation – Cashmaster’s approved dealer in Germany, introduced them to our cash-counting equipment. Aldi had been looking for something to save time and allow them to count takings easily, while significantly reducing the number of inevitable mistakes caused by manual counting.
No obligation free trial
Hans Bercx, Fongern Automation’s Sales Manager, commented:
“We knew that the Sigma 160 would be the ideal machine for Aldi and encouraged them to take advantage of the no-obligation free trial so they could try the machines on site and see for themselves whether Cashmaster’s cash-counting solution was the best for them.”
The roll out
Aldi trialed 5 machines in different stores over a period of 6 months and soon discovered that they could save approximately 15 minutes per day with the Sigma 160, compared to counting by hand 3 times per day. This gave each store time to carry out more important tasks.
Cashmaster’s counting machines significantly reduce the time spent counting cash, with the entire contents of a typical cash register counted in less than a minute – around 6 times faster than by hand. Our machines count 500 coins in 0.2 seconds and 300 notes in 5 seconds!
Connecting and networking with head office
With the Cashmaster machines in place throughout German stores, Cashmaster and Aldi discussed how they could increase efficiency further across the network. Hans Bercx explains:
“Aldi was interested in the possibility of connectivity. We devised a program which enables the Sigma 160 to be connected to a PC through their EPOS system: exactly what the client was after.”
This program allowed Aldi to monitor the cash held in each till and compare it to the amount counted at the end of each day. It also allowed them to transfer all the data to a central location, such as Head Office. Hans Bercx continues:
“We worked very closely with Aldi to give them exactly what they needed, and they were very happy with the results.”
Aldi now has Cashmaster equipment in stores throughout Germany and rely on it as a vital tool in the everyday running of their stores. Both Fongern Automation and Cashmaster are proud to work with a forward-thinking company like Aldi as it allows us to look at how to develop our products to suit the needs of each individual customer.
